Food and drink in Krabi Town

Food And Drink In Krabi Town – Budget Travel In Thailand

Facebookpinterestyoutubeinstagram

Krabi Town is a gateway to the Andaman Islands. Many tourists only stay for a short time. However, Krabi Town offers amazing street food and some great backpacker bars.

One thing that we loved about Krabi is the amount of markets and street food available. It really made us feel we were truly back in Thailand when we were eating rice with two delicious curries for just 50 baht. The street food was awesome. It really made us want to stay even longer than 5 nights!

Where To Eat In Krabi Town

Chalita Cafe & Restaurant

Located near the pier, this was the restaurant where we discovered that all sales of alcohol was strictly prohibited for 24 hours due to the upcoming election. My night of finding a bar with good WiFi so I could watch live football online was ruined. The food cheered me up though. My chicken panang was delicious! Map.

Coral Coffee House

Our first day in Krabi brought us here as we were hungry and we noticed the cafe was wall-to-wall covered in books and playing great music. It had a real European vibe. We had a drink then decided to stay for some food. There was a cool second-hand shop next door selling bags and clothes that had the same atmosphere and could well be the same owner. Map.

Fresh Food Market Restaurant (name unknown)

Probably my favourite place to eat in the whole of Krabi town. The servers are very helpful and will tell you what is in each dish and how spicy it is. A great choice of food and a scoop of 2 dishes and rice costs only 50 baht (a few dishes are 10 baht extra). Delicious and spicy authentic Thai food. Map.

Maharat Bakery

Dutch-owned and serving a variety of fresh bread, we came here for coffee and breakfast. The coffee was disappointing for a cafe owned by a Dutch guy but the sandwich was tasty. I had cheese and pesto on multigrain bread. Map.

Street Food Pork With No Name

This place has no reference on Google Maps or anywhere else on the internet but it is a must visit. Outside the Honda shop, when all the bikes have been packed away, up pops a street food vendor, with tables and chairs, serving the most delicious pork dishes. I had red pork and crispy pork mix and it was amazing. Very cheap and good portions. Head towards the Cro-magnon Man intersection (map) and directly before the left turn is a Honda shop. In the evening, you will find this pop up restaurant.

Best Bars In Krabi Town

Krabi is not much of a party town but there are a number of bars where you can meet fellow travellers and backpackers. Ao Nong is where you will find the Krabi nightlife.

Arty Momma Rasta Bar

I was heading home on the first night when I decided to go and check out this bar. I’m glad I did. Talk about chilled! There was an acoustic duo playing classic reggae and Thai tunes and this small place had such a great atmosphere with people singing along and getting drunk and high. It was the first place I went to since returning to Thailand where I realised that the attitude to smoking cannabis is much more relaxed in the south. Map.

Buffalo Bar

A small but quirky bar playing 60s music. The plants, lights and decorations create a wonderfully chilled atmosphere. It was empty when I was there which is a shame. I hope it does get more custom as it’s a cool place. Map.

Chu A Pa

If you wish to try local craft beer, Chu A Pa is a good option. It is a small bar with tables in the street, situated near the entrance to the night market. They seem to like blues music quite a lot. Map.

Cozy Bar

I came here on the last night and immediately wish I’d have discovered it earlier. This is a busy place, filled with backpackers from the nearby hostels. They provide free pool, which proved to be a great way to start chatting with other travellers. I stayed here until they kicked us out and very nearly carried on in the next door hostel but we had an early start so sensibly declined. This was as lively as the Krabi nightlife got for me. Map.

Ole Bar

Popular bar playing 90s music. The owner was very friendly and you might get a free shot! Beer seemed to be more expensive on my second visit which was a shame. Map.

Twin Ha Cafe By Bowran

Excellent coffee and nice jazz music playing in the background. Definitely a cool place worth checking out. After a long day exploring the Tiger Cave Temple, this was the perfect place to elax. Map.

A mention has to go to the small reggae bar opposite ‘Yenta Bar’ (map) which served us cheap, cold beer to enjoy with the reggae vibes.
