Start Here

Welcome to Global Treats: Travel Tales and Tips.  I’m not sure ‘how’ you found us, but I’m glad you did!

I’m presuming you got here because you are looking for some information regarding travel in South East Asia or Europe?  Initially, the content of the web site was based entirely on our travels in South East Asia as I was writing as we travelled. The site has now expanded to include my experiences in Europe.

What is the purpose of this web site?

The purpose of this web site is to give other travellers tips and advice about travelling through various parts of South East Asia and Europe. We travelled to a budget so the site is aimed mostly towards traveller/backpacker hostel type travel. Most of our rooms cost around £10 a night for the both of us, usually with our own bathroom.

We decided to quit our comfortable lifestyles and travel; initially in South East Asia.  I’m pretty sure there are many other people thinking about doing this so this blog will hopefully offer you some advice along the way.

Information based on experiences.

All of the information provided on this web site is based on our own experiences. If a restaurant is poor, I’ll say so. If a hostel is grotty, I’ll tell you why. There are affiliate links in this site to places we’ve stayed and things we’ve bought but all have been of use to us on our travels.

Thinking of travelling but too scared to make the jump?

My advice is… JUST DO IT! The experiences of travel are just too wonderful to miss!  You will not grow older and look back at that amazing staff meeting! If a few months ago, someone would have told me I would be tubing down the Nam Song River, next to the huge limestone mountains in the glorious sunshine, I simply would not have believed them. Yet, I made it happen! Even if it is just for one year, leave your comfort zone behind and explore the world! It’s a beautiful place!

I’m too old for that now!

Nonsense! I turned 44 just before we set off. Adventure is not limited to the young, only the young-at-heart. You can be as active or as relaxed as you want. Maybe tubing or kayaking down the river is not for you? That’s ok. How about relaxing in a hammock, next to the river, watching the sunset over the mountains? How about an early-morning, relaxing boat ride into a lake filled with thousands of red lotus flowers? Travel is about experiences. What those experiences are is entirely up to you.

Making money whilst travelling

Ideally, this blog will bring in some income so I can extend and finance my travels.  There is absolutely no sign of that happening right now as it is very early days.  I would LOVE any information and advice from fellow travellers on how they have managed to pay for their lifestyle choice.
