Travel in Europe is a backpacker’s dream. It is impossible not to fall in love with its beauty, history, culture and diversity. Moving around Europe is relatively easy as you can move between Shengen countries with ease and no border controls. For non-European travellers, one visa covers the entire Shengen area.
Before my big year-long trip to Southeast Asia, my main travels were in Europe; mainly short breaks to the major cities. After my travels, I decided to continue and explore more of Europe. I spent Christmas and New Year in the Balkan countries, where I found great food, friendly people and some truly wonderful cities.
The popular tourist cities such as London, Paris and Rome are definitely worth a visit but for a true European experience, try some of the smaller towns. This is where you will discover how the local people really live, away from the trappings of tourism. Make sure you try the local foods and cafes. There isn’t much point in travel if you eat in Mcdonald’s and drink in Starbucks!
If you are an EU citizen, there is no need to worry about buying a sim card as your phone will work exactly as it does at home, with no extra charges. There is also no need to worry about visas when travelling in the Shengen area.
