Krabi Town has accommodation to suit every type of budget. Many travellers visit Krabi Town on their way to the Thai islands. These are the best hostels in Krabi town.

After three days on the island of Koh Yao Noi, we headed to the town of Krabi for 5 nights, after which we would continue our island-hopping tour of southern Thailand.

Koh Yao Noi had given us a taste of what to expect from the islands of southern Thailand and we were looking forward to experiencing more Thai islands before moving on to Malaysia. Krabi was a short break from the islands and a return to the type of Thailand we experienced at the start of our adventure, filled with bars and street food.

Krabi Town Or Ao Nang

Our research informed us that there are two places where most people stay in Krabi: in the town or in Ao Nang. Ao Nang is a beach resort and filled with souvenir shops and even fast-food chains. In hindsight, after a day visit to Ao Nang, we are definitely glad we chose Krabi Town.

How To Get To Krabi Town From Koh Yao Noi

We had to take a taxi from our accommodation in Koh Yao Noi to ‘Tha Khao Pier’ (map). From here, boats depart fairly regularly. A longtail takes about 40 minutes and cost 150 baht.  Alternatively a speedboat takes about 25 minutes and cost 200 baht.

Taxi Scams In Krabi

Once you arrive in Krabi, ignore the taxi drivers that will try to charge you 600 baht to take you into the centre. Instead, walk out of the pier to the car park and look for a white songthauw. This will take you into the centre for just 100 baht per person.

These are some of the best budget hostels in Krabi, according to user reviews. These are affiliate links to the Agoda web site. I found Agoda to be much better than booking.com in Southeast Asia. I receive a small amount for any bookings made through these links at no extra cost to you.

Ban Punmanus

We chose to stay at a place called ‘Ban Punmanus’ (map). Once we arrived in Krabi, it was a 15 minute walk to our accommodation.

We were pleased to discover that our room was big and had air-conditioning. The bed was comfortable, the shower was hot and the WiFi (mostly) worked. On the night of the Thai election, where the sale of alcohol was strictly forbidden, we were able to buy beers for our room. The staff was friendly and the rooms were cleaned as often as we wanted.

The only negative would be the single use plastic they use for water. Each morning they left 2 small plastic cups of water in a plastic bag on our door handle. Nice of them, but in a world where single use plastic is clearly a big issue (especially in Southeast Asia), they might want to reconsider this service. Free water refills is a much more environmentally friendly way of providing drinking water to your guests.

Hopefully, they will change this with enough complaints. Apart from this issue, we loved our time here and would highly recommend it to others.
