Cheng Lay Guesthouse
There are hundreds of hotels, hostels and guesthouses in Siem Reap to cater for all budgets. We found a well-priced guesthouse called ‘Cheng Lay Guesthouse’ (map) that was just a 5 minute walk from the centre and surrounded by bars, shops and restaurants. They even sent a tuktuk driver to pick us up from the airport, free of charge.
It was clear as we got into the centre that this was a lively place. The streets were filled with bars and restaurants and this wasn’t even the centre. I had a strong feeling I was going to enjoy Siem Reap and was liking the fact that we had booked to stay here for 6 nights.
The hotel was an excellent base for our time here. The room was more than adequate for our needs with a hot shower and excellent WiFi. We had a huge balcony which we shared with one other room. The family that run the guesthouse were very friendly and always greeted us with a smile. The manager was very helpful and was always eager to give us advice on the best places to visit in Siem Reap. He even took us back to the airport for our early flight to Thailand when it was time to move on. The restaurant below was also nice and cheap. Chatting to other travellers, it seems we got a very good price on this guesthouse. I would definitely recommend it.
