After travelling in Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia, we returned to Thailand to explore the islands. It was a great feeling arriving back in the ‘land of smiles’ where our travels had begun.

Our flight from Cambodia dropped us in Phuket where our exploration of the islands would begin.

How To Get To Phuket Old Town From Phuket Airport 

Upon leaving the airport, take a left turn and keep walking until you reach the public bus parking area. From here, you can take a bus for 100 baht which will take you into the heart of Phuket Town. The journey takes just under one hour.

Arriving In Phuket Town

As the bus entered Phuket town, the first signs were not that good. It was very modern with malls and big commercial businesses. There seemed to be a KFC every hundred yards. Thankfully, when we arrived in the old town, franchise fast food restaurants gave way for local eateries and boutique shops.

Surachet At 257

We chose to stay in a ’boutique house’ called ‘Surachet at 257’ (map). It is located about 5 minutes walk from Thalang Road, which is one of the main tourist streets. We were checked in by a very friendly receptionist and our room was perfect: clean, bright and with good air-con. The beds were comfy, the shower worked fine and the WiFi was good. There was even free apples in reception! For the price we paid, this was an excellent guesthouse and I would highly recommend it as a base tor exploring Phuket Town.
