Kep has accommodation to suit every type of budget. Travellers visit Kep for its famous crab market. These are the best hostels in Kep.
After the grit and tragic history of Phnom Penh, we were ready for something a little different. Kep was the beginning of our time on the Cambodian coast and exploring the islands. It truly blew us away. We were not expecting Cambodia to be like paradise!

Visal Sak Guesthouse
We stayed in a guesthouse called ‘Visal Sak’ (map) as it was one of only two places in the town that was within our budget. It was a little away from the main beach but they offered free bicycles, which is what persuaded us to choose them.
We chose the cheapest room, meaning no aircon and no hot water. There was a fan though and it was so hot so a cold shower was not a problem. However, the room did get a little stuffy and didn’t let in much natural light. Probably more due to the illness but I was glad to be moving on from that room.
The guesthouse itself was a great place to stay. As well as the free bikes, they had free WiFi and a restaurant on the rooftop. This was very useful for me when I was ill. The food was decent too and we ate there a number of times having a variety of meals: curries, pizza, noodles and pancakes.
The guesthouse had many cats so expect a few unexpected guests whenever you eat there.
It was a great guesthouse for the price. It was a little out-of-the-way, but they had this covered with the free bike rental. There were many bikes to choose from. They cleaned our rooms daily without being asked and they arranged our transport to Kampot.
