Visit Kazimierz Dolny to experience a small, picturesque town on the banks of the Vistula river in central eastern Poland.
Kazimierz Dolny has become a magnet for creative types who enjoy the stunning landscapes and relaxed atmosphere. The town’s beauty, together with a number of historic sites, ensure that Kazimierz Dolny welcomes many tourists in the summer; usually day-trippers from Warzawa.
Kazimierz Dolny was the second stop for us on our way from Lubaczow, following a short stay in Lublin. We took a bus from Lublin main bus station and approximately an hour later, we pulled into Kazimierz.
It was very cold so we headed straight to our accommodation, which was just off the main square.

Dawna Synagoga Beitenu
Dawna Synagogue
We booked a stay at ‘Dawna Synagoga Beitenu’ (map). It used to be a synagogue until the local Jewish community was destroyed during the Holocaust. It has also been a cinema. These days it is a Jewish Information Centre with some rooms to stay. The rooms were very good and the hotel is right next to the main square. The Jewish Information Centre were hosting an exhibition of local photos of the former Jewish community.
I would definitely recommend a stay at Dawna Synagoga Beitenu.

Things To Do In Kazimierz Dolny
Once we had settled into our accommodation, we headed out to explore the town. We headed across the main square and on to Krakowska (map).
At the beginning of Cmentarna is the ‘Franciscan Monastery’ (map).
After a while, we stopped for a coffee at a chocolate factory. On a cold, winter’s day, it was a perfect place to warm our bones. It was very expensive though and it has since closed down. A lesson to be learned there.
After our coffee stop, we headed back out to walk along the Vistula river.
Some of the houses were wonderful. I would love to live here!
Kazimierz Dolny Castle
After stopping off in a traditional Polish cafe for some zurek (Polish sour soup), we headed uphill to ‘Kazimierz Dolny Castle’ (map).
There are viewing platforms and a watchtower from which you can look out over the whole town and river.
As the evening set in, we headed to a restaurant for some pretty bad food before enjoying drinks in a bar in the main square.
We had a fantastic day in Kazimierz but we had an early start the next day so we headed back to our digs, tired but happy.
Polish Breakfast
Before heading for the bus that would take us to Warsaw, we headed to a local restaurant for a Polish breakfast. The kielbasa was wonderful and it set us up for the day.
