We had not planned to visit Lombok during our stay in Indonesia. We moved across Java before heading to Bali. However, as we travelled we met other travelllers who told us we should try to include Lombok as it was the ‘new Bali”.
We began our visit on the coastal town of Senggigi.

Green Asri Hotel
It was already late and dark when we arrived at our accomodation, ‘Green Asri Hotel’ (map). Check-in was straight forward and within minutes we were shown to our room. All the rooms were cabin houses with their own terrace. Ours was situated right next to the decent-sized outdoor pool. The rooms were very nice and came with TV, kettle, fridge and showers with hot and cold water. It was very impressive.

And now the downside. The WiFi in the room was non-existent. Occasionally, you could pick it up if you were sat on the terrace. Generally, you had to sit in the reception/restaurant area to use the WiFi. This was a shame. I think some hostels under-estimate the importance of WiFi to travellers.
Also, the hotel is not ideally located. It is on the main road that runs along the coast, but it is an hour walk to the actual Senggigi beach. It is cheap to take a taxi and cheaper still to use one of the ‘bemo’ vehicles that regularly run up and down this road.
