Where To Eat And Drink In Ayutthaya – Budget Travel In Thailand

Facebookpinterestyoutubeinstagram

Ayutthaya has a number of night markets serving traditional Thai food at low prices.

We found the markets to be the best places to eat during our time in Ayutthaya. The food was mostly great and much cheaper than the restaurants in the city. The markets are lively and filled with a mix of travellers and locals.

We also visited a few bars in the ‘backpacking area’ on Naresaun Soi 2 (map)which is a street of bars aimed at travellers. Here you will find western food, live music and DJs.

Food And Drink In Ayutthaya

Basic Space Coffee

‘Basic Space Coffee’ is a coffee shop that sells just coffee. No food at all in this small, basic space. Our research suggested we must try the coconut coffee so this is what we did. However, instead of it being coffee with a coconut flavour, it was coffee made with the water of a young coconut and then pieces of coconut flesh put in. It was not to my taste. Map.

Earl Restaurant

‘Earl Restaurant’ offers good food at low prices. When we visited, we were the only people eating in the restaurant, though there were people sat watching a movie. I think it was the fmaily who owned the restaurant. Watching a Thai movie whilst eating made for an interesting dining experience. Map.

Jim’s Cafe

It took us a while to find ‘Jim’s Cafe’. When we did finally discover it, we were glad we hadn’t given up. Jim’s Cafe is a modern coffee shop with a bright, airy atmosphere. It also sells a variety of cakes that looked delicioous. It is very popular with the locals. If you are looking for a caffeine boost to set you up for the day, this is a great option. Map.

Jintana Service

‘Jintana Service’ is a restaurant near the train station that serves traditional Thai food. They also do vegetarian options on all their dishes. They offer a free shower too! The food is cheap and tasty and the prices are low. Map.

Latte Bear Coffee

‘Latte Bear Coffee’ is a small coffee shop on the main tourist street of bars.  It sells excellent coffee and provides nice, relaxing jazz as a soundtrack. This was the best coffee shop in Ayutthaya for me. Jims Cafe was good but this had a quirky atmosphere and the coffee was superb. Map.

Nongnine Bike & Bar & Restaurant

‘Nongnine’ is the closest restaurant to the train station and probably gets most of its custom from travellers both arriving and departing. They serve typical Thai dishes and you can still get a decent meal for around 50 baht. Map.

Planet Earth Bar

‘Planet Earth Bar’ is situated on the main bar street. We came here as we fancied some Western food for a change and we heard we could get pizza from here. The beer was reasonably priced for a tourist area and the pizzas were actually cheaper than I was expecting. I paid 210 baht for a bolognese pizza and it was actually pretty good! Map.
