Ubud offers both local and international cuisines to suit all budgets. There are plenty of excellent vegan options at great prices.

Bali attracts tourists from all over the world and the choice of food reflects this. As well as traditional Indonesian food, you will find good quality restaurants serving Indian, Italian, Greek, etc. You name it, Ubud has it. Whilst these restaurants are more expensive than the local food, by western standards they are pretty cheap. Be aware that most restaurants add on government tax and service charge on top of your bill; we saw as high as 21%. This should be made clear on the menu (usually in small letters at the bottom).

Food And Drink In Ubud

Artini Warung

Average food from here. They offered ribs with beer for 85k, but it wasn’t the same ribs as the photo on the menu, so the offer was not as good as they were making out. I went for the ribs anyway which came really quick. They were ok but nothing special. They came with about 6 chips. Maps.

Bar Cawang

Small bar that offers food but little else. They do have a good happy hour until 8 where large beers are only 32 IDR. The staff are friendly. I really liked having a beer in here. It’s not trying to be anything fancy; it’s just a bar that sells nice, cold beer at good prices. Map.

Daily Baguette

Delicious sandwiches, paninis and cakes for when you are tired of nasi goreng! We enjoyed feta and olives, and mozzarella and pesto paninis before berry cheesecake and lemon tart. All were delicious. Map.

Dewa Warung

We only came across this place by accident whilst we were looking for somewhere else. It has a traditional Indonesian menu and at great value. Online reviews mentioned a long waiting time but this was not the case for us. I have read it was the first restaurant in Udub. Not sure about that, but the food was good and at this price deserves your attention. Map.

Ipong Coffee and Cafe

Nice, little coffee shop that offers outside seating so you can enjoy a coffee whilst watching the cars and bikes fighting for space. Decent prices. Map.

Lazy Cats Coffee Shop

A hipster paradise, this coffee shop offers vegetarian food and a chilled out atmosphere in tranquil surroundings. More importantly, the coffee is good (though a little on the pricier side). Nice music playing adds atmosphere and you can find their playlists on spotify here. Map.

Melting Pot Saloon

A recent addition to Ubud’s bar scene and a welcome one as it is located on the quieter side where there are few bars. They sell craft beer but it is expensive (by their own admission). I stuck to the local beer which was reasonably priced and can be bought on draft. They have many pool tables and even table tennis. An American challenged me to a game. They have some crazy rules over here but I still beat him convincingly. The locals are friendly, as are the staff. Great place to drink beer and shoot pool. They also serve typical bar food. Map.

Petani Restaurant

This is a very upmarket place serving Indonesian food. All the waiters are dressed in traditional Indonesian clothing. I only went for the traditional live music on a Wednesday night which was good but finished very early. It was 60,000 IDR for a small beer which is crazy expensive. I didn’t care for the place. With the waiters all dressed like that, it felt like a zoo, where rich tourists who wouldn’t dare go to an actual local Indonesian restaurant come and pretend they are in a traditional setting. Map.

Pundi-Pundi Asian & Grill

I had been craving a burger for a couple of days and this place served a decent grilled burger, though the portion of fries was small. Cheap by western standards but more expensive than many other local restaurants. Map.

Sawabali

Delicious vegan food in this small, off-the-beaten-track restaurant. They offer an all-you-can-eat, vegan buffet. The food is hot and there are many dishes to choose from. They are constantly changing the dishes so you get to try so much food. All you can eat for 55 IDR! Highly recommended. Map.

Tamirilo Food

This restaurant is situated on Jl. Hanoman, just north of the Coco supermarket. It is located on the second floor so you may have to look out for it. It offers nice views over the streets below. To be honest, the best aromas come from the Indian restaurant next door but the food was decent here, without being outstanding. Decent prices and they sell big bottles of Bintang for only 45 IDR.
